Try the Ohio Historical Society and the Ohio Genealogical Society. Both have sites on the web. Also contact the county where your ancestor lived. During the 1880s, county history books were very popular and everybody wanted to be included.

Ohio is one of the FEW states that has excellent resources. Ohio was the "Gateway to the West."
