Co E 7th Inf of Spanish American War

I have my grandfather's Spanish American War paperwork for pension and it shows his unit as The Co E, 7th Inf. He entered into service on Aug 3, 1901 at Fort Smith, AR.
I have been checking all kinds of Spanish American War unit sites and history sites and cannot find any 7th Inf that was active from 1896 thru 1904. Grandpa's discharge was Aug 1904 at Fort Wright, WA. Would greatly appreciate any information possible. He was said to have been a taylor in the Army. Many thanks in advance, Betty
