Birth Cert. for Joseph & Margaret Spangler, Strasburg, VA, ca. 1800
The Autumn/Winter 2011 issue of ANTIQUES AND FINE ART magazine on p. 67 pictures two marvelous watercolordecorated birth certificates with portraits of Joseph Spangler (born12 November 1790) & his wife Margaret Spangler (born 20 March 1799 "about 1 o'clock P.M." !) of Strasburg, Shenandoah County, VA, circa 1800.
If the certificates were written & drawn circa 1800, then the portraits on each (definitely more like teenagers or young men and women than infants) aren't of the certified children unless they are artistic projections of the people they might become. In other words, it is not clear who the portraits are intended to be.
Nevertheless, these certificates with portraits should be made known to the Spangler family. I am scanning them in case any of the descendants might like a copy freely by email. Someone in the family ought to have them--they are too good and rare to be missed by the descendants of this Spangler family. They certainly do have extensive genealogy value, as well as a whole lot of family, art, and historic value.

If they were certificates with portraits of a young Pease family in my line, I'd certainly want someone to do the same for me.
