L D Spangenberg Sr 2/10/00
Hello,
I am a member of the french part of the family and I have 11 cousins. I can come back in the genealogy to my grand-grand father who died against the germans in 1870 in the Napoleon III army as cavallery officer. Nine months after his last visit to Grand-Grand mother and his die, my grand-father borned in Strasbourg. He died in 1942 but have had the marvelous chance to get five sons. One of them is my father, Henri Spangenberg and I borned in 1960 near Paris where I live. Unfortunatly, I currently ignore the genealogy and the history of our part of the family but my father have always saied to me we are the major branch and come in direct line from the "lords" of Spangenberg, city based near Hessen in the center of Germany. Because of the 3 wars against the Germans, my grand-father, who was injured by the german gaz in Verdun, have decided to forget the "title" and the distinction "Von" before our name.
I'm happy the know we have so many cousins in USA who are interested with their origines.
I'll be happy to continue to exchange informations with you and, maybe, to see you in 2001 in the Spangenberg Castle (my father have visited it in 1955 and it's one of my dreams to do it so. My son, who is 11 old wants too).
Do not hesitate to contact me and/or forward this message to whom will be interest by this little part of the Spangenberg genealogy.
Best regards from France.
Frederic.
