Mr. Spangenberg-Germany 1800's

Does anyone know of a Mr. Spangenberg that lived in St. Paul, Minnesota, in the 1800's. I would like to find out more about him - full name, address lived in St. Paul, occupation, anything, etc. I believe he befriended my grandfather in Germany in the late 1800,s and became the benefactor for his coming to America in 1888. He lived with the family in fall and winter of that year. My grandfather (Carl Henry Schmidt born 4-17-1863) also had visited Mr. Spangenberg's sister and relatives in Germany prior to leaving for America. Would like to know where in Germany that was and anything else that would be of interest to me. I never knew my grandfather as he died in 1932, but he wrote a journal of his life up to 1902 and that is how I know of the Spangenberg's. Thank you, Joan
