Perez DNA Project
We still need participants for the Perez DNA Project.
The cost to each participant is $99.00 for a 12 marker test.A 12 marker match between two individuals will indicate they share a common ancestor 14 generations or more in the past.
Since the 12 marker test is for Y-DNA only, we need only male direct line descendants to participate; the Perez son of a son, of a son, of a son, etc.
Once your DNA has been tested and entered into the Family Tree DNA database, they will notify you if your DNA matches any other person in the database, not just Perez.
Since the surname Perez is quite ancient and found in the Bible I wanted to know if it might have Jewish origins.Through the Philippine Catholic Church records microfilmed by the LDS, we have been able to trace only as far as my great grandfather Benito Perez.Family legend says he is of Spanish origin, but I don’t think he is the original immigrant. Her grandparents also spoke Spanish.
I convinced my brother to submit his DNA for testing. As Gomer Pyle would say, “Surprise! Surprise!”After several weeks the first results came in.The first match with one-step mutation came from a man who said his origins are Sicilian and a second match with one-step mutation came from a man who doesn’t know his origins but believes he might be Ashkenazi. Two more matches with two step mutations (not so close) came from Spain and France.Spain and France agrees with her family legends.
The big surprise came from an exact 12-marker match with a 76 yr old man in Georgia, USA.We share a common ancestor 14 or more generations ago, most likely in France, Spain, Portugal, or the Mediterranean. His surname is not Perez. The surname for his line or for my line must have changed somewhere.
Please contact me if you are interested in participating in the Perez DNA Project.
