The original Ricarts came from Villanueva y Geltru, province of Barcelona, Spain. The earliest Ricart that I have come across in geneologia books was named Mosen Ricart. My great grandfather imigrated to the Dominican Republic in the 1800's and on his gravestone he states that he is a descendant of Jacob, which confirms some of the other things I know a bout him.I believe that the family was originally jewish, although of the catholic religion, having made to convert in Spain. It is very possible that some other member of the family escaped to Jersey, as a common route of some jews out of Spain was to go to Amsterdan and then to England, such as B. Disraeli.
The encyclopedia of Heraldry states that "Ricker" is a variation of the same name.Where in California are you.The Los Angeles downtown library has a very good geneology section.I live in Camarillo, Ventura County.Lillian
