The 1870 census Greene Mississippi list James Monroe Sowell was born in Georgia. I have learned not to use the birht place of parents on the census as resources, merely as a pointer. Ira M Sowell is the husband of a cousin. They lived just down the road from us when I was a child. We always went to the Sowell family reunion that was held as 'Uncle Ira's" home. He lived on a hill that had a long half circle driveway and there were lots of trees between his home and the road and that is where tables were built and lunch was served pot luck style. Uncle Ira's son, Louis was the general fix it man around Sand Hill. He never married but was a very intelligent man with a great understanding of electricity, etc. There wasn't much that he could not fix. His sister Margaret lived at home and never married. She cooked on an old wood stove and as far as I know, they never had indoor plumbing. Miss Kate, another daughter lived in State Line and owned a chicken farm. There were other children also, Roscoe used to plow our fields with my Dad using his mules. He was very good. He married Dorothy ?. There were still other children that I am too young to remember, but I have them listed if anyone is interested.
