Happy New Year Doris.....and Other Interested Readers! Thanks for your DNA feedback. Certainly we both agree that we are in a period of flux with regard to what conclusions can be drawn from the amalgamum refined from everything....including paper,DNA,tradition, etc.I tended to think that, for reasons to which I have already alluded in other comments, verification of long pedigrees was rather unlikely.Still,I have just been facinated to learn, via leads given me by Doris, that a university study in Ireland concludes that,on DNA evidence,22.5% of the Irish men descend from Niall of the Nine Hostages!Count me in there too.....although my latest Irish ancestor was 300+ years ago. This info was long since verified many times over by the paper trail, but this is a vastly longer scientific affirmation than I would have ever thought possible!Since we are still casting about for parameters,I would submit that they,at least in my humble assessment, are closer to Brian Thompsett than to the lineage societies. This is not a criticism of the general lineage-based society requirements, but merely a stab at finding a path through the wilderness.......I appreciate ALL of their efforts.
