Dear Bruce,
Thanks for your reply. As a point of reference, the Milford I spoke of where my Grandmother Madaline Southworth was born is in Otsego County, NY.
I think I might have something for you. As with Mary Lou, I urge you to get the Samuel Webber book online at http://users.ev1.net/~hmltn/southworthbookhttp://users.ev1.net/~hmltn/southworthbook as the info is invaluable and it is where the info I am about to give you comes from.
There is a MONTGOMERY line as follows:
(it is in Chapter IV, of Webber)
Edward Southworth m.Alice Carpenter and had:
Constant Southworth m.Elizabeth Collier had:
William Southworth m.Rebecca Pabodie (granddau.of John Alden & Priscilla Mullins) and had:
Nathaniel Southworth m.Mary Torrey and had:
Josiah Southworth, third child, third son (this is where my line diverges, as mine follows the eldest son Nathaniel). Josiah m.3rd Irene Reed and had:
Chester Southworth m.1st Zerviah (Zeriah/Kenna) Crane and had:
Irene Southworth m. Hugh MONTGOMERY They lived at Canton, St.Lawrence Co., NY and had eight children: Chester, John, Porter, Marc, William, Marilla, Eliza Ann, Serena.
I hope this helps you. Let me know if you find that it is the correct line for your Montgomery's.
There is also a line shown in Webber (chapIV)which may be of interest and is as follows:
Edward, Constant,William,Edward,Fobes,John, MARY SOUTHWORTH m.CORNELIUS HAIGHT they resided in DUTCHESS CO.NY where their children were born (later res.in Brighton, Monroe Co.,NY) Haight Children:
John O. d.young
Daniel C.
Jacob C.
Elizabeth
Martha m.Thomas Johnson, from Scotland
John O. d.young
George S. d.infant
George S.
Ira A. m.Catharine Ann Haight d.w/out issue
I don't know if there could be any connection with your Dutchess Co. people through this line.
I think I have seen Vernon somewhere in the Southworth mound, but only as a first name so far, if I find it again, I'll let you know where. The other names aren't familiar to me, but there are literally thousands of descendants of the Southworth line. Could the name you gave as WATERS once have been known as WATROUS? There is a branch of Watrous in the Southworth tree and as its meaning is literally Waters, it is possible that your line changed it from Watrous to Waters somewhere along the way.
From the reference you gave in your other posting, I gather that you have already found Kerry Southworth's website. It really is well done and quite a good source. I would also urge trying Cyndi's list which has alot of Southworth links. For early info on the line, the Mayflower Society has a good site, as well as looking up the Descendants of Charlemagne. Any of these provide links which will get you deeper into the tangled mess of Southworths.
Hope I have been of some help. If you have any other questions, let me know. Also let me know if you find anything futher. Thanks, Deb.
