William the Colonist's Estate
Posted by: Jeff Southmayd Date: November 02, 2000 at 18:31:37

Was at the LOC and found the Salem court record (December 22, 1648) for the inventory of the estate of William Southmayd, the colonist. There were several other records of litigation involving William and his father in law, William Addis.
The underlying court record indicates that "Millissent Southmate presented for not returning inventory of the estate of her deceased husband, Will. Southmate. Mr. Addis brought one in for her, and she was appointed administratrix and discharged from the presentment [summons]. She was ordered to bring up the children." Why she had to be ordered to bring up her children is not clear to me. The court record lists the inventory of William's estate, including his 1/2 interest in a boat. If interested in it, let me know.
