Well, I had a look again at the pension reference for one of Charles Madison Shelton's widow, Jathenia as saw that he was indeed pensioned in Patrick Co Va for his Union service in the 4th US Vols. which I now understand was made up of "galvanized soldiers" who had orignally been Confederate and came from the POW camp to serve in the Union. Therefore I am assuming that was the case for this man, my g-grandfather.. and that his cousin of the same name and close birthdate was the other C. M. Shelton in the 58th VA Grays. Now I am trying to determine which two Shelton brothers (referred to by my ancestor, Thos Shelton of Patrick Co Va), did orignally go into the Union Service orginally.Probably George W. and one other. Any clues welcomed.
