Hi Ronald, I have lots of information on George Buckskin Waters. The problem is I don't know which of it is right. His birth date is often listed as February 22, 1827. Some researchers list it as February 22, 1848, but his tombstone lists it as 1824. George himself didn’t help clear up the matter to any great degree. In 1900, while providing testimony for William and Katie Starr's citizenship papers, George claimed to be about 52 years of age, but said he wasn’t exactly sure when he was born. This would seem to confirm the birth date of approximately 1848. This does not fit with George’s assertion that he was orphaned at the age of 11 when his parents died during their removal on the Trail of Tears. The Cherokee’s march across the Trail of Tears took place in 1838, which would give George a birth date of 1827, seemingly confirming that as his year of birth. The dates of George’s marriage and military service are also of little help. Allowing for either 1827 or 1848 as a birth date, he was either 33 or 12 at the time of his first marriage in 1860. Both ages seem improbable. Can you help me out with any of it? What exactly are you looking for. I may be able to help.
