Smithland, KY

I've been reading the 635 archived posts and notice a bit of information about southern unionists who relocated or were escorted to Illinois. Does anyone know about Smithland, KY (near Paducah, Mound City, IL and Cairo, IL) as a site where unionists gathered before, during and after the war? My ancestors, Peter Richard Clement (First AL Cav) and Able Abraham Reed (6th TN Cav) were there in the late 1860s.
