My g-grandfather who fought in the First Alabama Cavalry USA and lived in NW Alabama mentioned the Revolutionary War connections as one reason for siding with the Union. He said in his autobiography that his ancestors had made to many sacrifices during the revolution for him to turn his Old Glory.

So this may be one thing that the Union people from mountainous NW Alabama had in common with the Florida Unionists.
