Here is a synopsis of the original Compiled service record for each Hood that served in the 1st Alabama Cavalry. Additionally, I have included information as to residence in 1860 according to the census and final resting place if I have verified the information. Information as per charges of desertion are just that a charge of desertion, unless the record indicates that the soldier went to trial by court-martial.

1. Hood, David A., Private, served in Company A; Age 19; born Franklin County, Alabama; Occupation, farmer; Physical description; blue eyes, dark hair, fair comlexion, 5 ft 9 in tall; Enlisted, January 22, 1863, Corinth, Mississippi, for one year, Mustered into federal service same day; Re-enlisted, February 5, 1864, Memphis, Tennessee for three years; Charged with desertion April 3, 1865, Mt Olive, North Carolina; According to the "The Free State of Winston", Thompson, Wesley, David Hood is identified as a resident of Winston County, Alabama prior to his service in the 1st Alabama Cavalry. He appears on J.B. Weaver's list of Union soldiers From Winston County in the Appendix.

2. Hood Dennard, Private, served in Company A, at the time the company was organized as Lt Burdick's Company of the First Alabama Volunteers; Age, 37; Enlisted and mustered into federal service October 1, 1862, Corinth, Mississippi, for one year; Charged with desertion January 31, 1862, Corinth, Mississippi. Residence 1860, Winston County, Alabama according to Thompson and Weaver (above).

3. Hood Dennard, Private, served in Company B, Age, 43; Occupation, farmer; Physical description, black eyes, dark hair, dark complexion, 5 ft in tall; Enlisted, January 5, 1863, Glendale, Mississippi, one year; Absent, April 1863, sick at Purdy, Tennessee; Mustered out of service January 1864, Camp Davies, Mississippi; Residence 1863; Winston County, Alabama, according to Thompson and Weaver.

4. Hood, John W., Private, served in Company D; Age, 18, Born, Pontotoc County, Mississippi, Occupation, farmer; Physical Description, blue eyes, light hair, light complexion, 5 ft 10 in tall; Enlisted, May 1, 1864, Decatur, Alabama, three years; Mustered into federal service, June 16 1864, Decatur, Alabama; Daily Duty, August 1864, Company Cook; Absent, October 7, 1864, sick in hospital, sent to the rear to hospital in Chattanooga, remained in hospital or a convelescant until, February 1865; Detached duty, February 1865, with 1st Alabama Cavalry Detachment in North Alabama; Mustered out of service, October 20, 1865, Huntsville, Alabama; Residence 1864, Winston County, Alabama according to Thompson and Weaver; Died, February 5, 1902, Winston County, Alabama, Buried, Endmonfield Cemetery, Winston County, Alabama, north of Addison. Born April 1846 according to tombstone marking.

5. Hood, John, Corporal, served in Company B; Age, 21; Enlisted, January 5, 1863, Glendale, Mississippi, one year; Mustered into federal service, January 22, 1863, Corinth, Mississippi; Died, February 24, 1863, Corinth, Mississippi, measles; Buried, probably buried Corinth National Cemetery as an Unknown.

6. Hood, John, Private, served in Company A, then known as Lt Burdick's Company of the First Alabama Cavalry; Enlisted and mustered into federal service, October 24, 1862, Corinth, Mississippi, one year; Charged with desertion December 31, 1862, Glendale, Mississippi.

7. Hood Richard, A., Private, served in Company, A; Enlisted and mustered into federal service, February 5, 1864, Memphis, Tennessee, three years. Final disposition not listed in record.

8. Hood, William w., Private, served in Company B; Age, 26; Born, Jefferson County, Alabama; Occupation, farmer; Physical description, grey eyes, light hair, fair complexion, 6 ft 2 in tall; Enlisted, January 5, 1863, Glendale, Mississippi, one year; Mustered into federal service, January 22, 1863, Glendale, Mississippi; Charged with desertion April 18, 1863, Glendale, Mississippi.

There is also a Hood who served with the Independent Scouts and Guides in the District of North Alabama,
1. Hood, Mark W., Private, served in Captain Baxter Giblreath's Company of Independent Scouts and Guides; Age 28; Born, Cherokee County, Georgia; Occupation, farmer; Enlisted, July 24, 1864, Larkinsville, Alabama; Mustered out, May 5, 1865.
