The people on this board really have more expertise on people on the Union movement in the south. I would recommend that you ask your question on another cite: Alabama in the Civil War Message Board. If you type those words into a search engine, you'll probably find it. There are some researchers there who will be able to tell you about the Dickerson Guards and may even be able to pinpoint the activities of your ancestor. Good luck.
