Dear Fellow Researchers,

I'm looking for any information or
documents that name my second-great-grandfather, John M. Clayton
of the 1st Alabama Calvary U.S. A. He was in Co. B, enlisted in Glendale,
MS in 1863. Our family does have the documents his widow filed for his army pension.
They moved to Illinois, first to Decatur, then on to Clinton, Marion Co.
IL in the spring of 1865. He was discharged due to consumption from the measles
and traveled with a man by the name of Brown-as best as I can read the documents
his name appears to be Brown. They both had earlier moved their families into Illinois.
It is possible that both of them came from the Bexar community of Marion County, Alabama.
That is the homeplace for my gg-grandfather. He died in a hospital in
Centralia, Clinton Co., IL and was buried either in Centralia, Clinton Co.
or Marion Co., IL. Our family is seeking his gravesite.
Any help will be appreciated.
