Hello to all in this thread.I hope that I may be able to help some here.
By the way, I was born and raised less than 10 miles from the cemetery in Winston County that many of these Southerns mentioned are buried in (Posey Mill).I have pictures of the tombstones if you need any.
I have a photocopy of a page out of a book that someone gave to me.I am sorry to say that I don't know the name of the book.I know that this section was submitted by Estelle Stansbury and was researched by Evylene Anderson Canup. It says that her references are Jamestown, VA records; Military records of Revolutionary and Civil War.
I certainly hope that all of this information is correct and would greatly appreciate anyone correcting in misinformation that you may find here (if any). You'll find that William and Miles are used a lot in this family line!
The long article, verbatim, says:
1016 Miles Southern and Jinnie Brown
The Southerns of Gilmer County can trace their ancestry back to Jamestown, Virginia, when John Southern arrived there in 1620 in the ship "George". He was born in England ca 1600, the son of William Southern, he married Memory Tucker, the daughter of Capt.
