Only have a small bit of secondary information gathered while looking at my JOYCE line but this might give you a few clues to look for. Much of what follows comes from:
THE ALLEN FAMILY by Richard Fenton WICKER, Jr. [Baltimore, MD: Gateway Press, Inc. 1995]
Rufus Franklin SOUTHERN was the son of William Washington and Celia [BOYLES] SOUTHERN.
William Washington SOUTHERN was the son of Reuben V Nancy [JOYCE] SOUTHERN
Celia BOYLES was the daughter of Alexander and Minerva [JOYCE] BOYLES.
Minerva JOYCE and Nancy JOYCE were sisters and daughters of William C and, possibly, Celia [POOR(E)] JOYCE
I don't have much more than that though, if I have the correct Rufus Franklin SOUTHERN, I can provide additional information on their JOYCE ancestry. Minerva and Nancy were sisters of my Elijah JOYCE who moved to Missouri by 1840.
