Hi Bob,
Yes, I have some information about WINNIE SOUTHERN's parents:
WINNIE's Father's name: GEORGE SOUTHERN.
I don't know where he was born (I am assuming the Newark/Lincs area) and the only information I have about a possible date of birth for him would be some time prior to 1872.
WINNIE's Mother's name: ANNIE ?PASK?.
Again, I don't know where she was born but she would have been born prior to 1872.
Both of these names I obtained from a copy of WINNIE SOUTHERN's birth certificate. The handwriting prevents me from being absolutely sure what ANNIE's surname is or was. My best guess is "PASK".
Some further information on this family:
GEORGE's wife ANNIE (?PASK?) must have died fairly young (how old and at what date, I don't know) for GEORGE married a second time. Unfortunately, I do not know the name of his second wife. I do know, however, that GEORGE and this second wife had a daughter (therefore, a step-sister for my WINNIE SOUTHERN) whose name was MARGARET SOUTHERN.
I do not know the names of the parents of either GEORGE SOUTHERN or of his two wives. I do, however, know that GEORGE's father was known as "PUBLICAN SOUTHERN" - I understand he ran a Public House.
GEORGE had a brother; I don't know his proper name though. He was apparently known as "BOY SOUTHERN" - presumably because he was younger than GEORGE.
"BOY SOUTHERN" as he was called, had a son called WALTER SOUTHERN. Twenty five years or so ago, I recall an aunt of mine (my father's sister) writing to this WALTER SOUTHERN, trying to trace some family history. How she found his address I don't know, but this aunt and my father were the children of WINNIE SOUTHERN. Unfortunately, both my aunt and my father died some time ago - hence my lack of current knowledge. At the time that my aunt was writing (from Somerset) to this WALTER SOUTHERN - still living in the Newark area I seem to recall - she was middle-aged and WALTER was somewhat older than she. I also seem to recall that WALTER at one time worked in the Sugar Beet Processing Plant there. If I find any more information on that I will let you know.
I do not know if GEORGE had any other siblings. Nor do I know if his first wife ANNIE ?PASK? had any siblings.
One final relation - WINNIE SOUTHERN had a full brother, ie he was the son of GEORGE SOUTHERN and ANNIE ?PASK?. I believe the name of this brother was ?BERT SOUTHERN. Whether BERT was his proper name or a short form of ALBERT I don't know.
Well, that's about it I'm afraid. Wish I had more information. Thanks for coming back to me again.
Cheers. Roy Davey, Hertfordshire, UK
