Umberto Poletto

Umberto POLETTO, whose mother was allegedly Austrian, came from Padua, Italy.

Umberto was apparently a cook in the Italian army; he was in the War for "two weeks" before being captured by South African forces and imprisoned in the Zonderwater Camp.

After his release from Zonderwater he worked on several farms and helped make wine for the Deciduous Fruit Board; he also helped build St Josephs' Cottage Hospital.

Sometime during the late 1940's he met my great grandmother Gertrude Elizabeth PETTERSON (who had recently divorced my great grandfather, Wilfred George HAMPSHIRE).

Umberto died in Cape Town circa 1994-1995.

Any information you might have would be greatly appreciated.
