I have a old family story that my great granfather went to south africa leaving his wife and children in the West Hartlepool area of North east england. I'd love to know if this is true and see if I can make any links as i have no information whatsoever - I was told that the only letter every delivered to my Grandmother came from a ship that had sunk and was illegible inside! I think this might be a bit of a overly romantised story but I would love to find out more!
