QUAITE / QUAIT families
Among family papers I have found a letter from Botswana, dated 10-07-1979, from a P.R.QUAITE who was at that time stationed in England, and had sent out letters to various Quaite names, asking for info as he was trying to research his family line.
His address at that time in 1979 was Engineering Section, Selebi-Pikwe. His letter indicated he was anxious to gain any information on the Quaite family. Any help in locating this person or his family, to help with the research, much appreciated!
I have also been trying to find info on other QUAITE / QUAIT's in S.Africa; most in our line have the "e" at the end of the name, others not. I have found a MARGARET QUAITE born around 1841 in Grahamstown, Cape, married at age 20 to a James MILNE in 1861. But I cannot find who Margaret's parents were (possibly father Robert Q.)
In our Quaite line (Scotland to Ireland) supposedly one JOHN QUAITE left Ireland (Belfast) and emigrated to South Africa, nothing more is known of him or of any descendants. Most of our line of QUAITE lived in Co.Antrim, N.Ireland, but before 1830 came from Scotland. I have found a WILLIAM QUAIT (no āeā) born 1821 Wallacetown, Ayrshire, Scotland, who is listed as a weaver, then as a Private in the DEVOT Battalion in 1839, who was in Grahamstown, SA 1849.
I cannot connect any of the above people to our Quaite line.
Any information on any QUAITE / QUAIT family lines in South Africa would be muchappreciated.Thanks. P.Quaite
