I'm interested in this discussion as my husband's great grandmother was Matabele's eldest sister, Penelope. According to the book "Matabele Thompson" by Nancy Rouillard, he was visiting Penelope, then newly married, when he met his future wife Georgina Rees. This was shortly after his father, Francis Thompson, was killed in a raid by natives at Cornforth Hill.
Penelope married John Maxwell. Their daughter, Dorothy Maxwell, married Rev F W Wingate, Rev Wingate, Dorothy and their 3 oldest children came to London in 1910. Their 4th child, my husband's mother was born in LOndon in 1914.
I'd be pleased to share information.
