Hi there Paul,
Not sure if this is related to your query, but by the dates it seems its the same ROGERS.
1902-1979 RICHARD ROGERS
Composer and partner of Oscar Hammerstein II (1895-1960). Their collaborations included Oklahoma, South Pacific, The King and I, and The Sound of Music.
Among the the composers who went to Europe for their training, composers that included Virgil Thomson and Douglas Moore, was Aaron Copland. Copland wrote two operas, both for young performers. The first was The Second Hurricane, produced in 1937, and directed by a young Orson Welles. The work had a mixed reception. His only other opera was The Tender Land. Commissioned by RICHARD ROGERS and Oscar Hammerstein II as a television opera, it was produced instead by New York City Centre because NBC turned it down. It finally saw a television performance in 1975. This work too had mixed reception. Both Copland's operas suffer from weak and inconclusive endings.
