Your family would have derived from one of the children of the following persons:
b6. Catharina Petronella Lingenvelder~9 Nov 1786, X 14 June 1807 Johan Lodewyk LOOCK They had 9 children.
The original Loock was a soldier from Berlin who came to the Cape to work for the VOC.He became the superintendant at Klapmuts fort near Paarl, became a wagondriver, farmer (Remhoogte) and sold herbs. The latter detail is mentioned in a book about old houses in the Cape authored by Jan Smuts.
You can trace some detail from Johan Lodewyk Loock on Botha genealogy:

Your line would have then have possibly come from one of the children of Johan Christiaan Loock.

and ask him if he has by any chance access to the Loock register and if there is any information regarding your particular Loocks.Certainly some of the family did end up in the Transvaal and Johannesburg. Some were in Ladybrand, a Cesil Loock (stonemason) but most were in the Cape and Eastern Cape.
They all come from the same source, in Cape Town.
The Loocks have a Jew, Abraham Hartog, Indonesian slaves (through Petronella Lingenvelder)in their genealogy. The very early Loocks married French refugees and Dutch orphans.A look at van Rensburg genealogy under Hartog and Lingenveldershould help to fill in some of that picture. http://www.geocities.com/Athens/Rhodes/1266/http://www.geocities.com/Athens/Rhodes/1266/
Slavery at the Cape in van Rensburg genealogy and items under his genetic enrichment should give you some background of the relationship between German soldiers at the Cape and their marriage with slaves and others.
This is a very interesting historical topic, far too big for detail here but should help you get started.More info can be gathered from the Huguenot Society of South Africa.
If you use Google search engine, punch in the name 'Loock' and a number of names will come up.You could write to the various academics in the Transvaal and see how they are related to your family. They are related so do not be frightened of making an error.
The following people are also wanting info on Loock.Write to them and ask how they are related to you.
