The following is from the 1881 British Census, looks hopeful.
That Census is available on CD ROM, £30 for 25 disks total.
It may also be available at your local Family History Centre/Society, try
your local library.
"Scholar" means "of school age".
"Clerk" often means "manager" or such-like in modern parlance.
With there being two other "Tailors " in residence, it looks as though
Alexander is running a business.
