John Soule, son of George Soule and Mary Beckett, was not the eldest son. Zachariah was the eldest as witnessed by the Division of Cattle on the 22 May 1627 when the family consisted of George, Mary and son Zachariah. Many people think John was the eldest because in his will George refers to him as such. More correctly, John was the eldest living son at the time. I originally had the first three children as Zachariah b: bef 22 May 1627, Benjamin b: 1630, then John b: 1632. It seems to be the popular consensus that Benjamin was born last in 1651. Regardless, both Zachariah and Benjamin were deceased at the time George Soule wrote his will.
