Thanks for all the info. You’ve been very helpful. My Step Grandmother was a very quiet person and didn’t talk much about her life and we were taught not to pry. It’s a shame because I think her story would have been really interesting. I do remember she could not waste food and there was always way too much food on the holiday table. My Grandfather told us that she and her family lived in a log cabin and had a real hard winter, ran out of food and nearly starved when she was a child. Interestingly her and her sister Sara took a trip to see if they could find where that cabin had been and were surprised to find it was still there. They had it dismantled and reassembled by a small lake near Rose City, Michigan. She was 3 when the cabin was built. The cabin is now 119 years old and owned by my brothers and I.
