Seeking to share information with the descendants of Jose "Joe" Maria Soto Sr. He was born 4 OCT 1894 in Refugio County, Texas, to Felipa Conde (from Aransas Pass), and Frank Booth Rooke. Felipa was the maid of Frank Rooke and Roberta Driscoll Rooke. Rooke was a prominent banker and landholder in Woodsboro and Refugio, Texas. Felipa Conde later, but by 1900, married Pablo Soto, and then Jose Maria took the Soto family name. Pablo Soto, step-father, listed his brother Leonides Soto, in his household in the DeWitt County, Texas, 1900 census. Pablo Soto was born in June, 1873, Mexico, according to the census. Leonides Soto was born 1872, Mexico.
Jose Maria Soto married Ysidra "Ida" Medellin, born 14 MAY 1900, in Runge, Karnes County, Texas. The couple were married 14 OCT 1915, in Runge, Karnes County, Texas. Ysidra's parents were Pedro Medellin Sr. and Porfiria Mungillas, of Choate, Karnes County, Texas. Jose Maria Soto also had a child with Ysidra's sister, Eloisa Medellin. He later married Juana/Janie Gonzales, who may have been married to a Montalvo. Jose had several children by both wives.
