Old Sorrells and Tanner Cemetery
There is an old Georgia cemetery located between Monroe and Jersey, Georgia., called Tanner Cemetery. It is in bad shape and someone has cut access to the graveyard with a fence. There are around 30 to 40 marked some are readable and some I had to trace the letters with my fingers to make them out. The cemetery is made of about 20 Tanners and about 20 Sorrells graves There was a Mccord there and a Shumate. Here is what was on one of the Tanners and I have uploaded pictures of the cemetery to myfamily site...... James Tanner, Died December 14, 1898. There are Sorrells graves from the late 1700's on up to the early 1900's. If anyone is interested in this cemetery please email me at [email protected].
Some of the Sorrells are trying to talk to a judge about trying to get the old cemetery road made accessible again. Someone bought some property beside the cemetery and mad the road leading to it his driveway and fenced it off with a security system. My husband and I was lucky enough to find another neighbor who allowed us to walk to it on his side of the property, but it was hard to get down there cause we had to walk thru brairs, and over fallen trees and branches and high grass < and the whole time I was praying that the snakes kept to themselves
Thanks all for your time,
Debra Owensby Faulkner
I also have a sorrells website if anyone is interested email me.
