Shackleford/Solomon of Troy AL 1908
This was in The Dothan Eagle newspaper dated Monday evening news, November 16, `1908:
"Much Matrimony.
Rev. W.M. Anderson did a land office business Saturday night, in the matrimonial realm. At 7:30 he made man and wife, Mr. J.N. THORNTON and Miss Julia TIMMERMAN, both of this city.About 8:10 P.M. he was called up over the phone and informed that a couple from Troy would be at the Pastorium in a few minutes and need his services. On arrival at the Pastorium, they proved to be Miss Ruth SHACKLEFORD and Mr. John Wesley SOLOMON, both of Troy, Ala.They were accompanied by Mr. BOYD, of Troy, and Miss Verna SHACKLEFORD, of this city. After attending services at the Baptist Church, Mr. and Mrs. SOLOMON left for their future home at Troy, Ala.
Miss SHACKLEFORD has been conducting a large and successful school at Tennille, and is highly esteemed by the patrons of her school.
We learn that these young people have been sweethearts for a long time and their marriage is no great surprise to the friends of both.
Why their trip to Dothan for the purpose of matrimony, and giving the transaction a runaway aspect has not been explained. But probably, since it was a very sensible thing to do, it needs no further expanation.
We extend best wishes to both these married coupels and trust the day may never come when they can look back upon it with anything but pleasure and satisfaction."
