Thanks for the information.I did know that Wasyl was Ruthenian, I have even included a bit of the history of the people "from no man's land" on my website as well as some search help for others seeking ancestors from the area.
I have found several Sokols in the Ellis records and have not had the time to go back and re-check with the most recent information I received from the family. My father-in-law, John Sokol, died July 31st.At his funeral, his "younger" brother remembered a few things about his father (Wasyl) that he'd forgotten to tell me before. He remembered that his father was born in 1888 (I had guessed 1889).He told me his father came over when he was only 15 or 16, I had thought it was much closer to 18-20.The last thing he remembered was seeing his father write the name out for an ant, he thought it was something along the lines of Sakail.Once again, I must try new searches for that, or similar surnames.Seems I am now searching for Wasyl Sakail who arrived sometime around 1903-1905 (about 7 years earlier than I had been searching).
Thanks so much sending sending the information on the phone listings, we DO have the villages both Wasyl and his wife,
Wasyl Sokol came from Vyshnja Vyznyzja, Bereg Co, Ukraine, formerly referred to by the Hungarian name of Felsoviznicze
Anna's family came from Orichovycja,Transcarpathian Oblast, Ukraine, formerly referred to by the Hungarian name of Rahoncza.
Hannia, at the Ukraine Boards told me she felt Anna's father, Adolf was a German "transplant" to the area, before migrating to the US.It might also have been Adolf's father.
I'm planning to "dig" through the phone listings link you sent me, this weekend.Perhaps I'll luck out and find someone there~ stranger things have been known to happen!
I am fortunate to have friends who are Georgian, Russian and Ukrainian, all recent citizens of the US.I I should find something that look spromising, I can have one of them on hand to place the call.As if I don't have enough to do, trying to find my husband's relatives from this area, I also volunteered to help a friend with her ancestor research (Perih) from somewhere over there too~Guess I'm just a glutton for punishment!
