Hi, I posted about this family in the Scribner threads and went on my merry way and just recently found some great replies there also.
Perhaps I can help.I'm out of town right now but I think I can do some of this by memory.Martin Van Buren Scribner is most likely the son of Curtis Scribner and Lydia Snow.
I say this emphatically because my aunt had a bible with the names of all of the children (and maybe more) in it and had Martin as either (remember I am doing this from memory) Martin V B or Martin Van Buren. One of the things that stands out about this family is there was a least one set of twins and maybe more.
Here is the information that Pam Smith posted back to my query:
You've probably already found this by now,
1870 Census - Morgan Co., MO pg. 183
65-65- SCRIBNER, Curtis 70 b. MO
.......SCRIBNER, Martin V. 31 b. IL <<<
.......SCRIBNER, Catherine 21 b. MOnee McBride
2 ch. Ann age 8 b. MO and Mary T. age 1 b. MO
1860 Census - Madison Co., AR - Hilburn Twp. pg.402
404-404-SCRIBNER, Curtis 60 b. TN
........SCRIBNER, Lydia 44 b. TN
hc: Martin 22 b. IL, Emiline 18 b. MO, John 15 b. MO, Jonathan 15 b. MO (twins?), Charity 12 b. IL.
1850 Census - Taney Co., MO
Mostly initials and those hard to read. But Curtis, Reddin and Zachariah Scribner all there. Said to be from Montgomery Co., IL previously.
Remember 1860-1870 Civil War era and many Ozark families either headed to Arkansas or northern Missouri to escape the violence and returned to their farms after the war.

Martin and Catherine had a daughter named Charlotte (who often went by Charlie and Charles).Sorry, I can’t remember the rest of their children off the top of my head.I had the hardest time convincing my family that her name really was Charlotte!
Charlotte married Henry Porter Bradley and they had several children including my grandfather Robert Earl Bradley.
This part of the family ended up in Hood County, Texas among the Graham and Arrington families (which of course is in my line too).
As far as the W with Martin it may indeed be just a census error. They are a dime a dozen.
I think the other Martin Van Buren Scribner in Minnesota is just a coincedence. The name Martin Van Buren was very popular during those days. Two different people with the same name.
