Sharon - In looking over your descendancy from ANTHONY SNOW and ABIGAIL
WARREN (in your e-mail dated 5/17/98 sent directly to me), I think that
you are missing a couple of generations. From what I see in the GRINNELL
Genealogy, your lineage is as follows:

The following is from a manuscript at the New England Historic Genealogical Society in Boston entitled MATTHEW GRENELLE'S DESCENDANTS:
Nathaniel GRINNELL was born 9 November 1735 in Little Compton, Rhode Island; died 17 June 1829 aged nearly 94 in Farmington, New York; married 1) 1756 Ruth CLARK; 2) Elizabeth ?
Nathaniel was the oldest son of Jonathan and Alice (MIEUS) GRINNELL.The family moved to Elizabeth Island when he was young and in 1758 returned to the mainland at Tiverton.Prior to that move, Nathaniel married Ruth Clark on Nantucket Island.LDS records give two dates for their marriage, the first probably their "intentions", i.e., 11 September 1756 and 1 October 1756.In later years, his wife is shown as "Elizabeth" so there was probably a second marriage. In 1790, Nathaniel and his son, Gideon, are shown as living in Berkshire County (Lanesboro) Massachusetts.A deed of sale in Tiverton dated 1780 makes it appear that they moved about that time.According to one family record, Nathaniel and John (1773) moved in 1796 to the Town of Farmington, Ontario County, New York.

Nathaniel had served in the Revolution as a private in Captain Daniel Vaughn's Company of the Rhode Island Militia (24 December 1777 to 24 February 1778).It is said that he had bad feet but was able to ride a horse. Some records show a daughter, Betsey, born 1755, but this is not confirmed.

*Gideon and Abigail (WESTCOAT) GRINNELL came to Farmington in the 1790's.In Novemer 1800, Gideon purchased "72 acres of land...part of lot 84," next to property owned by his brother, John, which had been recorded in March 1799.It is stated that in the later part of 1810, Gideon moved to Tioga County, New York but the above "72 acres" were deeded by Gideon "of Farmington" to Timothy Allen on 15 November 1813.Two of Gideon's younger sons, however, Jacob (1810) and Benjamin (1811) are shown as being born in Broome and Tioga Counties in New York.Sometime later he moved again to Crawford County, Peensylvania where perhaps his oldest son, John C. had migrated.
