I have no idea if this is the same family or not. There was a James B. Snipes in Lauderdale County, Ala. who married Malvina Akers 8 Jan. 1845. I haven't found them in census records again until 1870 in Giles Co. Tn. The dates seem to be a little off but here is what I have found.
James B. (possibly Berry) Snipes43Ala.
Malvina 44Ala.
William17
James H. 15
Sarah F. 12
Rebecca M. 10
Perry L. 6
In the 1860 Giles co. Tn. census was
Snipes, Malinda - 27
Mary E. 4
James H. 3
Where was James B. if this is the same family? Possibly away at war.
In some of the records in Lauderdale Co., Ala. they have Malinda instead of Malvina. But according to the handwritten record of land transaction on the BLM in 1839, it is Malvina.
In Giles County, Tn. 1830 census record there was a John Snipes Sr. listed with 1 male 100 + and 1 female 80 - 90.A few names down was John Snipes Jr.By the way, these census records are posted on the Giles Co. webpage - www.rootsweb.com/~tngiles
Malvina Akers was sister to my gggrandmother, Nancy Angeline/Ann Akers who married Ira Dotson White. I am trying to trace the Akers line and having a very difficult time doing so. Some of the Akers family did move westward to Missouri, Arkansas, and Mississippi, and Oregon.
