Let me go ahead and jump in here. It's about time we had a Snidow forum. I have John Jacob's father as probably being Christian Schneider from Holland who came to America in 1727. Don't have anything more.

Elizabeth (Helm) Snidow came to Giles County in 1772, her husband John having
died enroute to Giles County. She settled
on Sinking Creek, in the vicinity of Harman's Station.
On August 7, 1774, Indians attacked the homes of the settlers, killing two Snidow children (little girls), three children of a Mr. Lybrook, and a young woman by the name of Scott. Thomas McGriff, Theophilus Snidow, and Jacob Snidow were taken captive, however Jacob and Thomas escaped. Theophilus Snidow stayed in captivity until he returned as a young man. He died of from pulmonary problems not long afterward.
I am researching the Pack, Peters, Farley,
Ballangee, Wiley, Garten, and Christy families, among others.
Appreciate comments or corrections.
Buddy
