"'INTERESTING EXCERPTS OF LETTERS RECEIVED DURING THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE 'ALLEY ANCESTORS': 2ND PAGE LETTER FROM BARBARA PETTY, 1ST PARAGRAPH: "from 'Genealogical Gleanings in England Abstracts of Wills Relating to Early American Families, With Genealogical Notes and Pedigrees Constructed From the Wills and from Other Records' by Henry F. Walters, pub. 1907 and reprinted in 1981 by Genealogical Printing Co., Balto., in Vol. II, p. 1079:
THOMAS SNELLING, clerk, vicar of Bridgerule(County Devon), 30 May 1639, proved 11 August 1642. To poor of Bridgerule and the poor of Launcells. Towards the augmentation or enlarging of the Communion Cup of the parish of Bridgerule I do give and bequeath forty shillings sterling. My daughters Elizabeth, Margaret and Joane Snelling. Lands called little Torrage in Plimpton St. Mary's, Devon, which I hold the demise and grant of Sir Richard Strode, knight. Margaret my wife. My brother Emanuell Snelling (married Mary Combs). My sister Welthian (Snelling) Alley and her children by Francis Alley. My sister Florence Lapp...etc., etc., etc."

It is noted that Dr. William Snelling and John Snelling of Boston, circa 1600's, also descended from Wiliam Snelling of Chadlewood, Devon, UK.
