I believe Leaston of Georgia to be the son of Dudley Sneed of Granville County, NC and later of Georgia. I believe Dudley obtained land grants in Georgia for his Revolutionary War service and it appears several of his children remove to the area. This is further suggested by the fact that some of Dudley's nephews also moved to the same region of Georgia as did other related Granville County, NC. families. Granville records show that Leaston Sneed sold his portion of Dudley Sneed's estat in to his cousin William M. Sneed (ref: Granville Deed Book X, pg. 361-2). Leaston was resident of Morgan County, GA by 1818. I would like to confirm all his siblings and their spouses.

However, there is also another Sneed family in this area that is related to the Sneed family of John Sneed and his son John who came out of Hanover County, VA to Caswell Co., NC and Stokes co., NC then moved further down to SC and Georgia. This Leaston is said to have married a Susan Bird and the Bird family has connections to the "other" Sneed family. Could there have been two Leastons? I have not been able to identify Dudley Sneed's spouse, thoguh I suspect she is a daughter of Abraham & Messianah (Davis) Mitchell of Granville.

I have not done extensive research on this line as it is not my direct line; however, I am interested in the children of Dudley for my own research interest.

Please write me and I can forward my notes on Leaston. I have some of my Sneed information posted at
