There is a mix-up somewhere, probably due to so many names being the same.I questioned Nova Lemons' message about the mother of Joshua Shoemaker Sneed, I have a copy of a 200+ page book on the Sneed line, complied by Ralph and Sheila Sneed, throughly researched. She is correct about Joshua and Susan's info, but Joshua's father was James Madison, not James R. He had a son named James R., that confuses a lot of people.I have found this on census, county records, county history, Joshua's mother was Nancy Shoemaker, born 1817 in VA, died on 3 Mar 1882 in Hamilton Co.,IL, married 10 Aug 1843. Nancy was James M.'s' 2nd wife. First was Sarah Blackbourn or Blackburn, this from Allen Co.,KY marriages 1815-1850, page 23, (where the Sneeds first originated). James and Sarah had no children, she died in 7 yrs. James M. was a blacksmith, born in 1817 in Rockbridge Co., VA, his parents were Elijah Perry Sneed and Mary Polly Benbrook. I have all their info and their other children's.I descend from Henry Mitchell Sneed, their 10th and last child.James M. and Nancy had 4 children, Marshall L. born 12 May 1848,died 8 Apr 1914, he married Manerva Hobbs.Nova gave Joshua's info.3rd child was James R. born 5 Jun 1853 who died 18 Mar 1918, married Priscilla Jane Lynn.Charles H. born 21 Apr 1856, died 3 Apr 1917 in Benton,IL, married Fannie Throgmorton. All the other events happened in Hamilton Co., IL.The first 3 children are buried at IOOF cemetery in McLeansboro.I have all their dates and spouses if wanted.
As for James M.'s sister, Elizabeth, I have she was born 1830 in Allen Co., KY.Her obituary in the book "Legacy of Kin of Hamilton Co., IL, Vol. 1" stated she was married to John Robert Lee and had 5 children - found them on the censuses. Elizabeth died 3 Sep 1860.Maybe Abishalom Ragsdale was another wife that no one else knows about?
John and Elizabeth had 4 sons:Robert W., Elijah, John Marion, Perry S and 1 daughter, Clorea.

I don't take info from other people without checking it myself.I get clues, then go to the records myself to check it out to see if it's correct.Sometimes it isn't. Just a hint that's well worth taking.
