Benjamin Sneed [1721-1819]m.c.1734 Mary Ann [Perry?], grandau.of John Sorrell. We suspect her father was a Wm. Perry. Benj.was the first tutor of Thomas Jefferson and lived on grounds bordering him. BS had children: Frances m. David Garth; John b.1755, private sec.to TJ,m.Sarah Johnson;Pegy m.Richard Johnson;Susannah m.1776 Geo. Faris;& Patsey m.Silvanus Meeks. A Wm Sneed b.1768 [1775?]is claimed to be another child.
John's dau.Martha m.Michael Hope,whose dau.Isabella m.Wm.Batterton, b.1802 in Millersburg,KY. William's father was Joseph W. Batterton who m. a Sarah (---).They both died young,and Wm. was brought up by his aunt,Betsey Hockaday in Millersburg.[See Batterton] The double "e"spelling originated with the Benj.Sneed family.
