Hi Robert,

I've heard that there was an article written at one time that discussed the variations in the spelling of SNAITH and SNEATH, but I have never seen a copy of this work. In my own line, back to 1727, the spelling has been consistant as SNAITH with no variations found. In looking at some of the parishes, such as Witton Gilbert, Witton Le Wear, Roos, etc. I have found many variations especially in the 1500 - 1600 period. As to the ethnic origin of the line, I have heard Danish, German, French, and Scottish - however, I have yet to find any such links in my own particular line. So far, we are from the parish of Wolsingham, County Durham where my research is firmly stuck in the year of 1727. If one looks to the introduction of the use of surnames, I could leap to the assumption that we, at one time, were in the Parish of SNAITH, in WRY. - But I don't have a dang thing to prove as yet!

Marie
