Doris and Bill,
I feel like I've just had a breakthrough with this information. I am a descendant of Caroline Elizabeth Huggins Chapman, who I believe is the daughter of John Huggins and Martha Snead Huggins Dunn.
Caroline was the mother of my ggrandmother -- Louisiana (Lucy) Chapman who married Julian Ira Woodard. Both Julian and Lucy were raised in Red River Parish.
I have recently uncovered more information about Lucy's parents through my aunt and another fellow genealogist on this forum regarding her father John Wesley Chapman. He married Caroline Elizabeth Huggins in Texas, but they moved back to Louisiana before Lucy was born. John Chapman's father J.O. Chapman also served in the Civil War for the Confederacy.
I think Caroline must have moved to Texas with her family and then went back to Louisiana with John Chapman (and perhaps her mother).
Anyway, I would love whatever information you can fill me in on for both sides -- Snead and Huggins. I have John Huggins in a census with birth in Florida and Martha with birth in South Carolina.
I am preparing an application for the DAR on my father's side (Thomas Woodard and John Singleton) -- have been able to identify two patriots in the direct Woodard line -- and I would love to know of any additional documents that may exist on the Huggins/Snead side, too. I have proofs up to this point through my other research, and if we have a patriot in our line, I may be able to prove them up as well.
I am sorry I have no other Snead or Huggins information for you other than Caroline's marriage to John Chapman, but I am definitely an avid researcher now, and I can also provide more information on Caroline's lineage.
Thanks so much!
