Gloria,
My GGGGF was born in 1851 and murdered sometime around the 1880's.One of his daughter (my GGGM) was a witness to this crime. He was supposedly murdered because he was an indian???My GGGM was approx. 10-15 years of age when shewitnessed this.Being sworn to secrecy, she never told who the "alledged murderers" were until after their deaths. My GGGGM's name was Esteline Carver Snead and she also came from Va.I believe it was the southern part of the state? She and James W. settled in the community of Huttonsville, near Elkins, WV.My GGGM was Sarah Mildred Snead Roberts, b. 1877.I remember her vividly though she past away when I was nine years old, at the age of 94.She could tell stories that still cause me to get goose bumps today. She told us one time that the reason for these stories was that when she was a little girl, there were no such things as "toys" like we have today (circa 1968) and that the only way to pass time was to tell great stories that were passed from generation to generation.
I find it fastinating that there are so many Sneads out there.
Thanks for letting me know about your Snead kinship.
Cathy
