My lineage through Matilda is iffy as to her actual origins. All I know about her was that she was listed as the mother of several slave children born on the Sneed Plantation in Granville County between 1822 and 1838 in a list of "Negro Birth Records for Enslaved People of Dr. Richard Sneed" and was recorded in several transactions in deed records of the county. One of her daughters, Nancy later called Nancy Sneed, was my gggrandmother, and her son, my Great-grandfather, Walter Sneed, relayed to the family that she was half-Native American, while Walter himself was also said to be the son of the then Sneed owner, William M. Sneed. Nancy was enumerated in both 1870 and 1880 as Mulatto in Granville County, but there is nothing else on her that I have found. I have no idea what happened to Matilda after her last child was born in 1842 on the Henderson estate in Granville County,NC, nor do I know anything further about who may have been her parents, or where she came from.
