Anne, I too have wondered about the connectivity among some of these Garland Snead's. So far I have not been able to sort them out. Another possibility: Ref: "Confederate Soldiers -- Alabama, 48th Infantry"; Call # A 929.3761; Microcopy #311; Roll # 436; Gadsden, AL Library. The microfilm contains two entries for a G. H. Snead/Sneed in the 48th AL Infantry. Many men from Cherokee County, including Morgan and James E. Snead, served in this unit. The following summarizes the entries for G. H. Snead/Sneed. "(1)Record Date - None Given: G. H. Snead, Co. H, 48th Regt., Al. Name appears on a register of officers and soldiers of the Army of the Confederate States who were killed in battle, or who died of wounds or disease. Where born ___. Deceased on Dec 19, 1862 at Richmond, Va. Confed. Arch., Chap. 10, File No. 2, page 244." "(2)Record Date - None Given: G. H. Sneed, Co. H, 48th Regt., Al. Name appears on a register of officers and soldiers of the Army of the Confederate States who were killed in battle, or who died of wounds or disease. Where born ___. Deceased on Dec 20, 1862 at Richmond, Va. from fever. Confed. Arch., Chap. 10, File No. 2, page 226." I think it possible that this G. H. Snead was the Garland Snead, son of Dianah (Beasley) and Absalom Snead, from the 1850 and 1860 Cherokee Co., AL US Census. I have found no trace of this Garland after the 1860 Census. This G. H. Snead's death in 1862 could explain why we cannot find this Garland after 1860. Notify Administrator about this message?
