I believe this is the Susan Poindexter Snead, daughter of John & Mary (Gooch) Sneed.

John Sneed's Bible record has been passed around quite a bit, though I have never seen a copy of the original. The Bible is said to have John's birth date as 27 Jun 1739 in "Virginia." Mary Gooch's birth is listed as 30 May 1745. The couple are suppose to have married on the 25 March 1765 in Hanover County, VA. John's father was another John Snead Sr. born March 1698 in London and died Jan 1786 in Hanover.

John Snead Sr. is certainly the man found in Hanover records who married Susannah, daughter of John & Sarah (Crawford) Poindexter. There are probate records in Hanover and Louisa that prove this. John Poindexter died in 1737 and his wife married James Brechin and she left a will in Louisa in 1753. We don't know if John Sr. is connected to the other Sneeds in New Kent and Hanover or if he is from a completely different family and did emigrate directly from London, England as the Bible suggest.

Mary Gooch is the daughter of William Gooch of Hanover and later of Caswell Co, NC. He and his line are well documented.

John Snead Jr. and hiw wife Mary Gooch are said to have settled in Wilkes county, GA where John died in 1793; however, I also have notes that he died in Edgefield Co, SC. Mary is said to have followed her duaghter Keziah Lamkin to Taylortown, Pike Co., MS where she died in 1842.

Mrs. Virginia Gooch Watson of TN is the main researcher of this line, though I believe she no longer is an active researcher. Research notes on this family can be found in the TN State Library and the Brentwood, TN Public Library.
