Deed Book 31
page 643
dated 23 DEC 1823

From John Pass and Polly, his wife, John Ray and Ony, his wife, Thomas Guthrie and Fanny, his wife, and Micajah Sneed and Elizabeth, his wife, heirs and legatees of John Henry Gravett, deceased, to Irby Adkisson, for $494.05, 100 acres more or less, joining Stokes Creek, adjoining Clement Lipscomb, Samuel Pate, John D. Adkisson, and George Cloughton.
Witnesses: Philip Howerton, Richard Wade, Sr., John Adams, and John Adkisson

It is thought that Irby Adkisson had married Jincy Gravett, thus the sale of the land from the heirs which kept it in the family, so to speak.
Thomas Guthrie married Fanny Gravett in 1814, Person County, NC, which is adjacent to Halifax County, VA. and was an elopment destination for many couples from Halifax County.
