Dear Mr. Summers and Ms. Herzog and other interested parties:

I have researched Keziah and William Keyser to the extent a lay genealogist might.

This is ground that you probably have already turned over but here goes.

Can you help in indetification of a John Snead Sr who gave 100 3/4 acres to William Keysar(Keyser) and Kussy (Kezier)(Keziah), his daughter.

The land is on Stony Run joining lands of John Bowls SR, John Priddy & John Snead Sr.

The land was sold to John Bowls Sr on 21 Jan 1788.

You may find the abstract in Hanover County, Virginia Deeds 1783-1792 by Rosalie Edith Davis.

In 1795 William Keyser and Keziah bought lottery tickets from John Littlepage which entitled them to Lots 5 and 48 in the town of Staunton (Hot Bath).

They later moved to Bath County c 1800 as did Richard Snead and his family.

Richard Snead and William Keyser later were involved in a proceeding of contempt and were to show reason why they should not make their fine with John C Littlepage of $16.00 each.(Hanover County Superior Court Volume I 1809-1826.)

In settling the estate of William Keyser his son Fleming Keyser presented the birthdates of the children of William and Keziah as opposed to the children of Richard Snead to perhaps settle some genealogical question. I do not know.

Mr. Willet Keyser states in his book "The Keyser Family-Herny's Children" "that no other Keziah Snead could be found" in Virginia at that time in answer to the Revolutionary War Pension file of William Harris and Keziah Sneed of Kentucky.(note spelling, cannot find other record with this spelling)

If one takes all the records as given it may be that there are plenty of records for two Keziahs.

William Keyser father's name may have been William Harris or William Harrison, but I find no evidence of William Keyser's middle name being Harris except for many RootsWeb and LDS records which may have been done so to merged the historical records.

I know that Mr. Summer has given the mother of Richard and Keziah as Jane Jackson. Later John Snead married to Sarah Woodrum. If her birth date as given by Mr. Summer is correct, Jane Jackson Snead would have given birth to 4 children in her late 40's 50's The only reference from the internet from which I failed to save the source states "John and Jane Snead recieved 300 acres from her father John Jackson in Accomac" Any further information on Jane Jackson and this John Snead would be appreciated.

Considering all the records, John Snead Jr will dated 9-10-1793 and the John Snead family suit recorded in the Virginia Argus, and Keziah Sneed application from Kentucky; I am working on a thesis that there are two John Snead Families with children Keziah and Richard and both Keziah's married a William.

This sounds farfetched, but I see no other explantion or reconcilation.

I have a 14 page history of the Descendents of John Snead Jr and there is no Bath County reference except for Richard's will and Fleming Keyser's testimony;I can find no connection to this Richard being the Richard mentioned in John Snead Jr.'s will.

Considering the transaction with Littlepage and other documents mentioned above, I am at the present conclusion that William Keyser married Keziah Snead daughter of John Snead Sr and that Richard Snead of Bath County was her brother.

Any help and guidence is appreciated.
